The police have gone to arrange for holding an inquest. DROWNING FATALITY. DANNEVIRKE, Jan. 3. The three and a-half year old son of Matthew Price, living at Tiratu, lias been drowned in the Manawatu River. He was taken across the river to liis grandmother while his mother came into Dannevirke. It is presumed the child wandered to the river intending to return home. A JOCKEY INJURED. MARTON, Jan. 3. Arcadia fell in the Tramway Hurdles, at the race meeting held at Bulls to-day and Whitehouse, the rider, was removed to the Palmerston hospital in an unconscious condition, seriously injured. PALMERSTON N., Jan. 3. F. Whitehouse, who was injured when Arcadia fell with him in the hurdles at Bulls races to-day, is lying in a critical condition at the hospital, and is still unconscious. INQUEST AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 3. At the inquest on Jane Gunther, married, 43 years of age, who died suddenly on Sunday night, a verdict was returned of death from cardiacsyncope. HAEMORRHAGE OF THE BRAIN. DUNEDIN, Jan. 3. Jane Anderson, wife of Frank Anderson, builder, of Mornington, died suddenly of 'haemorrhage of the brain. YOUNG MAN DROWNED. A young man named Paterson was drowned while bathing in the Shag River, near Palmerston, yesterday morning. Deceased was visiting the district. The body has been recovered. WOMAN HANGS HERSELF. Christina Clements Taylor, a married woman, suffering from nervous breakdown hanged herself at noon on Saturday at Alexandra South. YOUNG MAN KILLED. Robert Rendin, manager of a farm at Wairanga wasi killed on the Brighton Road yesterday, owing to the wheel of his gig capsizing over a bank in attempting to pass a landau. Deceased was a single man, aged 28.
