Professor Per rival Lowell declares that two canals new to us and to Mars were discovered by observations at the observatory of Arizona, when the planet was recently in opposition. [Professor Percival Lowell is an Am-' erican astronomer of the highest standing. He has made seeral discoveries on the especially Mars, and formulated the theory of the habitability of that planet. Last week Professor Maunder, of Greenwich Observatory, stated that Professor Hales’ 60in telescope had established the fact that the canalisation of Mars was an optical illusion.]
