The new owner, Mr. J. Dixon, intends to defend the cup. GOLD IN NEW GUINEA. BRISBANE, Jan. 6. Reports from New Guinea state that payable alluvial goldfields have been discovered along the Williams River, 120 miles eastward of Port Moresby. Miners are warned against rushing the field, pending further-’ information.
