Lord Kitchener visited the Liverpool camp j where nearly 5000 men of vari, oils arms are under canvas. He spent the day on horseback in a comprehensie inspection of the troops, watching the manoeuvres in connection with the attacking and defending columns. Lord Kitchener, while at Newcastle, informed the Consul for Chili that lie would like to visit that country to see the trans-Andean railway. He wished to know if the Chilian Government would send a warship to Tahiti to meet him. The Consul undertook to ascertain whether the Government would do
Lord Kitchener expects to finish his tour of New Zealand on March 2 and thence lie proceeds via. Honolulu to Tahiti.
ELABORATE MANOEUVRES NOT WANTED. SYDNEY, Jan. 7. Lord Kitchener upset preparations for elaborate manoeuvres at Liverpool to-day by issuing new orders at 2 o’clock this morning. A SENSATIONAL ACCIDENT. A sensational accident occurred at the camp at the close of yesterday’s operations. A Colt gun that was being cleaned discharged. The bullet passing through a tent killed a horse and then struck Mr Somerville, the “Daily Telegraph” representative, who was standing 100 yards away. The bullet hit him on the leg and inflicted a bad flesh wound. The patient was removed to the hospital.

To-day’s operations at the Liverpool camp were a repetition’ of the methods adopted by Lord Kitchener in Queensland. After the previous day’s orders had been cancelled’, the troops turned out at 2 in the morning, and spent the day in tactical manoeuvring, keenly watched by Lord Kitchener.

The 'following cablegram lias been received by the Government from Lord Kitchener: “I propose the following itinerary for New Zealand: Leave Melbourne in the Encounter oil February 12, arrive at the Bluff on the 17h, and thence rail to Dunedin the same day. Leave Dunedin February 21. for Christchurch, arriving there the same day; leave Christchurch on the evening of the 23rd, arrive at Wellington the following morning; leave Wellington 0 n the 28th for Auckland, and arrive on March 1. my official visit to the Dominion ending there about March 3.—Kitchener, Brisbane.”
