LOAN COMPANY’S DIVIDEND. iPeh Pbrss Association.! AUCKLAND, Jan. 8. The Auckland representative of the New Zealand and River Elate Loan and Mortgage Company has been advised that the annual meeting approved of the dividend of 8 per cent, per annum, including an interim dividend, and placing £22,000 to the reserve and carrying forward £5565. The' dividends on the shares on the colonial register will be paid on January 12. NAPIER HOSPITAL SUNDAY. NAPIER, Jan. 9. The annual demonstration organised by the Friendly Societies of Napier and Hastings and surrounding districts, in aid of the funds of the Napier Hospital, took place here this afternoon, in fine, though dull weather, and was largely attended. Street collections for the same object were made yesterday, and a satisfactory t'td is expected to be shown when all the returns are in. THE WRECK OF THE MAORI. WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. When the Ruabine left Capetown she saw the wreck of the Shaw-boviH steamer Maori, at Duiker Point. Ihe stern of the vessel was projecting above the water, also the greater oart of the mainmast. The rest of the hull was completely submerged. It is expected the wreck will break up with continued bad weather. ASSISTED IMMIGRANTS. WELLINGTON, Jan. 8. There were over 300 third-class passengers by the Ruahiue, which arrived from London to-day. . The High Commissioner granted assisted passages to 106. Amongst these were 23 domestic servants and 21 farmers. .The declared capital of assisted passengers ranges from £25 to £3OO.
