ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER.

AN AUCKLAND SENSATION. | Per Press Association.! ' AUCKLAND, Jan. 10. At the Police Court this afternoon, George White was charged with having discharged a loaded revolver at F. S. Workman on the 22nd nit., , with intent to do him grievous bodily harm. The man Workman, in evidence, stated that he had known the Whites for about ten months. When Mrs. White came' to Auckland che went to live with her sister at Kingsland. On the evening of December 22nd witness and Mrs White were walking in the street when White approached and said to his wife, “Where have you been, and what have you been doing with this man?” At the same time ho caught his wife by the arm, drew a revolver from his pocket, and presented it straight at witness. Witness caught his hand, and jerked it up, and the revolver went off. They then had a struggle, in the course of which the accused said to witness “You have ruined my life; you dirty black cop. I will ruin you,” and at the same time kicked witness on the side. Just after this the police came along and locked White up. The facts according to Mr. Hendry were that White and his wife lived at Stratford, and with them a boarder, Workman. Later the Whites came to Auckland, and Workman also came to Auckland.’ It was a short while after Mrs White had come to town that White allegedly as the result of suspicions concerning the behavior of his wife and Workman, one evening on meeting his wife and the lodger walking along the road, drew a loaded revolver and presented it at Workman. Subsequent to his arrest White made a statement respecting his domestic affairs, said Sub-Inspector Hendry, and a good deal of sympathy seemed to be due to White if what all he alleged were true. . The accused was committed for trial.
