TO LOCATE UNCHARTED ROCKS.
“AN EXPENSIVE MATTER” SAYS THE MINISTER. TPer Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Jan. 10. The Hop. J. A. Millar, Minister of Marine, speaking as to the advisability of a comolete survey of the coast for uncharted rocks, said it was a question whether Parliament would authorise such a survey, which 1 would take many years. At one time >lie thought the Tutanekai could be utilised, but that vessel was unsuitable.; To properly equip a vessel with appliances would mean an initial outlay of £40,000. He would suggest to his colleagues the desirability of asking Parliament to sanction another arrangement under which work would be done by the Admiralty officers and equipment.
