ROWING.
GISBORNE CLUB
The final race for the Buscke sculling cup was rowed over the Waimata course last eening, the contestants being Somervell (scr) and- Wheeler (12sec). With the advantage- of his handicap Wheeler led until the junction of the rivers, when. Somervell drew level. Coming to the bridge, Wheeler, pulling powerfully, obtained ha-lf-a-length’s lead, but once through the structure Somervell again got on even terms, and in a rattling finish just managed to win by ,about three-quar-ters of a- length. ' Tho handicap was an excellent one, and Somervell’s superior steering ability was the only thing that enabled him to defeat his rival. Puflett, Scott, Doyle; Somervell, Wheeler, Donald, Bright; Bayly, Tocher, McLernon, Quigley; F. Traill, Stevenson, Dods, Bennett; G. Puflett, Curtis, Coleman, Dobson; E. Traill. Butler, 13usby, Lovett. This race will probably be rowed about the 24th inst.
