"Hampton’s Magazine,” which, paid the record sum of live shillings a word to Commander Peary, for his story of the discovery of the North Pole, effected an insurance of the explorer’s life until he had completed the writing of his story. , The insurance remains in force until the publication of the final instalment of the story. Whoever has tried Zymole Trokeys never goes without them. Every day their popularity increases, simply because they do just what is claimed for them. The following paragraph appeared in a recent issue of the "Timaru Herald:” "It will be remembered that the Land Bill introduced last session contained clauses authorising the Lands Department to extend, by one year, the leases of hill runs which fall in this year. The Land Bill was dropped, the fact that it contained these provisions was forgotten, and nothing was done by the Legis. lature in regard to extending the leases We have it on good authority, however, that the Lands Department is making arrangements by agreement that will secure the same purpose.” In reply to an inquiry by a "Dominion” reporter, Mr. Kensington, Under-Secretary for Lands, pointed out that power to extend the leases of pastoral runs fs already given to Land Boards under the existing legislation. He believed that the Canterbury Land Board had deoid. ed to carry out what the Land Laws Amendment Bill intended in this direction. The Board could, he added, only make a recommendation which has to be submitted to the Minister f«r his. approval.
