CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The 'monthly meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. W. D. Ly.snar), and Messrs Kirk, Maynard, Darton, So-mervell, and Smith. On .behalf of the Visiting Committee, Mr. Somervell reported that everything was progressing satisfactorily at the Home. No complaints had been received, and the old people appeared to be thoroughly comfortable. Mr Campbell Thompson wrote applying for a place in the Home for an old man, aged 67 years, who was at present in Central Otago, but who could not remain there owing to rheumatic affection. Tile man would be practically able to nay for his keep in the Home. The Mayor said that to accede to the request would be establishing a dangerous precedent, and after further discussion it was resolved that the matter he allowed to stand over for further information. A letter was received from the Auckland Hospital Board claiming fees for the treatment of a Gisborne patient there. Cr. Kirk stated that' the man in question had been employed as an engineer at tlie freezing works. He was no ipauper, and should be made to pay the fee.
Tlie Custodian reported as follows: Number of inmates at last meeting 18, discharged.during month 1, left 2. One was committed to the asylum, one to the Salvation Army Rescue Home, one died, and one of the inmates is at present in the hospital. Remaining at date in the Home, 14. . Messrs W. Lissant Clayton and F. J. Lysnar were appointed the Visiting Committee for the ensuing month, and accounts amounting to £lO4 0s 4d were passed for payment.
