The weather Avas Avet for the opening day of the Paliiatua-. Racing Club’s annual meeting andl in consequence the attendance Avas small. The- fields were small but the racing good % some fine finishes being Avitnessed. The' sum of £3005 was put through the machine, compared AA r itli £6234 on the first day last year. EleA r en bookmakers were licensed. The folknving Avere the results of the racing:— Hack Hurdles, I 3 miles. —Windage 1, Tokoroa 2, Clem 3. The only starters. Won very easily, pulling up at the finish. Time: 3min 26 l-ssee. Railway Handicap, 6 furlongs.—Teru 1, Thera 2, Purakau 3. Scratched Repeat. A very close finish, heads separating placed horses. Time: lmin 8 1-5 sec.
Flying Hade Handicap, 6 furlongs. — Liquid Air 1, Afterthought 2, Chase Mab 3. Scratched Sea.*Queen. Won by a length, arter a good race. Time: lmin 18 2-ssee. Welter Hack H-andican, 1 mile. —Debonnaire 1, Hilarian 2, Rose Herald 3. Scratched Pukewai and Windage. Won fairly easily by two lengths. Time: limn 47sec. Paliiatua Cup, 11 miles.—Milan 1, Mataari 2, Parable, 3. Scratched Effort. From an even start Milan and Parable went to the front. At tlio hack Milan took charge with Mataari second in com _ mand. Milan Avon bv a length. Adria was left at the post. Time: 2min 11 sec. „ , Telegraph-Hack Stakes, 0 furlongs.— Splash 1, Blend 2, Pukewai 3. Scratch.
ed Liquid Air, Tepuki and Seaweed. Splash and Pukewai were always in front. Blend came with a good run in the straight and won by two lengths. Time: lmin 4^sec. 'Trial Hack Plate, 7 furlongs.—Strathmoira 1, Moree- 2, Wlieturaugi 3. Scratched Tepuki. Moree led to the straight on sufferance, where the favorite put in a run and won easliy by two lengths. Time: 2min 3 4-ssec. Ivonini Welter Handicap, 7 furlongs. —Aberration 1, Marathon 2, Midian 3. The only starters. A splendid race, Aberration winning from a fast finish with Marathon by half a length under the whip. Time-:- lmin 31 3-osec. PAHIATUA ACCEPTANCES. The following are the acceptances for the second day of the Paliiatua annual race meeting:— Hack Hurdles.—Windage 11.0, Gold Bird 10.2, Tokoroa 9.7, Nightmare 9.6, Clem, Golden Star 9.0. Stewards’ Handicap (open).—Teru 9.0, Cyrene 8.8, Adria 7.9, Thera- 7.4, Purakau 6.13. Newmarket Hack.—Snlash 9.9, Conquestina, Liquid Air 8.8, Amaru 6.13, Afterthought 6.11. Mangahao Welter Hack.—Debonnaire 9.11, Pukewai 9.9, Chase Mab 9.0, Tyrannic 8.13, Amphianser 5.12, Wailiola 8.0. Racing Club Handicap.—Milan 8.4, Parable 8.2, Mataari 7.12, Adria 7.7, Malum Hack. —Pukewai 9.0, Liquid Air 8.5. Blend 7.12, Rose Herald 7.10. Grandstand Welter (open). —Aberration 10.1, Astraea 8.15, Cyrene 8.12, Midian 8.4, Hilarian 5.4, Marathon 8.0, Waicola 7.7.
