CAPTAIN KNYVETT'S CASE.
INDIGNATION MEETING IN AUCKLAND. [Per Pucks Association.! AUCKLAND, Jan. 14. An indignation meeting was held at the Federal Hall to-night in connection, with' the dismissal of Captain F. B. Knyvett from the volunteer force. It was so largely attended that, in addition to upwards of IGOG poisons who got admission, several hundreds had to remain outside. It was arranged that an overflow meeting should be addressed by some of the speakers, buton the latter proceeding to carry out their nurpose the greater proportion of the disappointed crowd had dispersed. A resolution was enthusiastically carried requesting the Government to set up a Royal Commission to inquire into the whole circumstances and, pending its decision, to reinstate the dismissed officer. This was moved from the chair bv Mr C. F. Parr, seconded by Mr G. L. Peacocke and supoerted- in vigorous speeches by Messrs W. F. Massey, A. E. Glover and C. H. Poole, M.P.'s. A further resolution was also carried by acclamation getting up a deputation, comprising Me&'s J S. S> Nicholson, G. L. Peacocke and iW. B-. Leyland to wait upon the Minister for Defence in support or the first resolution. The mover was Mr IV. E. Hackett and the. seconded Mr F. Lowry. M. The Rev. Canon Mac Murray and Dr. Hopford spoke in support. The meeting throughout was most enthusiastic and closed with throe cheers fo: Captain Knyvett and his men.
