THE RABBIT INVASION.
MEETING OF FARMERS.
A meeting of farmers was held in the Farmers’ Union Club rooms to consider the question of the threatened rabbit invasion of the district and other matters of importance. Mr. W. D. Lysnar presided, and there was a moderate attendance. The Chairman read a lengthy report from the members of the party who recently visited the Wairoa and Galatea districts. The details of the report have already appeared in a recent issue' of the “Times.” After reading the report Mr. Lysnar said that steps had been taken to get tlie extra hands required at Wairoa. Prompt measures were .necessary in view of the fact that the proposed Rabbit Board could not be .legally constituted for several weeks. Mr. Lysnar then went on to personally explain the position, stating that" all that could be done until the Board was constituted wa s to try their utmost to bold the pest- in check. Mr. T. Holden eulogised the efforts put forth by the gentlemen who had constituted the party. The information was most valuable, and would be of great service to the new Board •when it was formed. He agreed that prompt and immediate action was necessary in view of the rapidity with which the pest multiplied, as had been experienced in many places in the South Island. (He proposed a heartyvote of thanks to the party for the great trouble they ]iad gone to in the •matter.
The motion was seconded by Mr, Mander and carried unanimously.
