United Pukbs Association— Coi’yiugiiit SYDNEY, Jan. IS.
Though the floods are receding wide areas are still under water, and 1 many outlying .places are cut off. The loss of stock is very ilieavy round Gundagai. It is estimated that 20,000 sheep perished and many cattle. The stench from decaying animals form n menace to the health of the town. One hundred other cattle, after swimming for miles, managed to escape. -People on returning to their homes after two days’ absence found them in a terrible state, the floors being deep in filth, and the houses in some cases being blocked by Head animals. Amongst other heavy losers is the North Western Grain Company, which had 20,000 hags of wheat ruined.
The Government is affording help to distressed families in the flooded districts.
fAs the result of damage to the waterworks and electric light plant, Taimworth will be without light and water for some days.
