NO HOPE OF REFLOATING THE -\u nu- vessel.
I Pim I’linss Association.! 1 DUNEDIN, Jan. 19. Air Mclntyre, Rc-pair.s Superintendent for the Union Company, returned from the scene of the wreck of the Waii:are last night. He reports that the (Vaikare’s position has altered very little and that she is firmly fixed on the rocks. She has sunk do ah about 4ft since the passengers leit, and now only a small part of the forecastle and the upper deck forward or the bridge are visible at high water. I here is not the slightest hope of refloating the vessel, which is apparently held fast on the rocks, some of which, it is tnought, have pierced her hull. Considerable difficulty W2S experienced in salvage worn inside the. steamer, and operations had +o be confined to periods wnen the tide was low. The property salvaged concjets principally of fittings and a tew articles belonging to passengers, the ship’s bell was recovered after a good deal of trouble.
