A MUNICIPAL QUESTION.

COUNCILLORS’ DISABILITIES

, Pun Peess Association/! NAPIER, Jan. 19

The audit office have certified to the correctness of the Napier Borough Council’s with the exception that payments for supplies had been made to J. P. Thompson, member of the Council, for an amount which exceeded the maximum prescribed by subsection (li) of section 4x or the Municipal Corporations Act. At the Council meeting to-night a letter was read from Cr. Thompson tendering his resignation. This was accepted with regret. The Mayor .pointed out that companies of which councillors were members could legally supply goods to the Council, while councillors carrying on private .business could not do so. In his opinion if any councillor were debarred from supplying goods to the Council all should -be placed on toe same footing.
