THEFT OF A BICYCLE.
AN ENTERPRISING JUVENILE. [Pick Puf.ns Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 20. A small country boy .wlio lives near Christchurch recently became so fascinated by accounts of .seafaring life that he resolved to leave home to join the Government training ship Amokura. Ho started out for Dunedin, and on the road met another small boy, who was riding a bicycle, and after conversation it was agreed that the prospective sailor should have a ride. However, when once on the 'machine the latter thought it would be much easier to ride than walk to Dunedin, and he cleared out with the bicycle. He joined the train at Rangitata, and happened to .fall in with a gentleman who knew the owner of the bicycle, and the circumstances under which the boobtained possession of it. On arrival at Studhofine he was promptly handed over to a. constable, and yesterday he . appeared at the juvenile court, before, Mr. W. Bailey, tS.M., charged with stealing a bicycle, which was valued at £l2. He admitted the offence, .and the Magistrate, while conimending the spirit which actuated him to join the Amokura, condemned the manner in which he had attempted to accomplish the object. As the bicycle had been recovered, the boy was discharged.
