The factory lire at Philadelphia was caused through an electric wire being fused in the third storey. A panic occurred. There was an utter absence of discipline. The stairway was blocked. Frenzied women jumped from the 'fourth, fifth, and ejixt.fi storeys, although the crowd shouted for them to ■wait for the fire escapes. At least a dozen girts were killed, and there arc others probably under the collapsed 'building. There are twenty in the hospital, several being unlikely to recover.
