GISBORNE CLUB
A. meeting of the committee of the Gisborne Rowing Club was held last evening. Me. 0. J. Hamilton being in the chair. Jt was decided that Messrs Hamilton, Swinnerton and Muir be a selection committee to pick crews for the “Muir Cup,” and for the “Rost and Telegraph” trophy, the latter being a double scull event for B grade members. After discussion it was resolved to order two sets of oars and sculls. It was decided to row the double scull event on the Taruheru river, provided the Muir Cup can he rowed over the mile and a-lialf course. In connection with this matter, Messrs Swinnerton and Muir were instructed to take crews through the Roebuck Road bridge and report if it was safe to row oyer this course. It was resolved that the only race in the A grade should be Somervell v. E. Traill this evening. To-morrow F. Traill will row Hansen, and Bayly will row the winner of Somervell v. E. Traill, and' tihe final will be rowed on Friday. The resignation of Mr. G. Rowe was accepted with regret, and .it was resolved to write Mr. Rowe thanking him for his services to the club. Messrs Curtis and Swinnerton were appointed a Visiting Committee. The races for the Schumacher Cup and medals were commenced last evening. when two heats were rowed. Baylv, Tocher, McL-ernon.j and Quigley bent" P. Hamilton, H. Puflett, Scott, and Doyle by about two feet, after a splendid finish. The other rare was between Hansen, Richards. McConville, and Jeffreys, and G. Puflett, Curtis, Dobson, and Coleman. Owing tp a mishap when nearing the junction of the rivers, Puflett’s crew did not complete the course, and Hansen’s crew finished alone.
In the B grade trial fours, two heats were also rowed/ Gallop. J. Pollock, Rutherford, and Wyllie beat Everiss, Perrv, Brown, and Miller by lialf-a-length: and Mulvihili, G. Pollock, Dawson, and Cogar beat Malone, Eraser, Muir, and deLautour by about a length. THE CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA. [Pick I’iuchh Association.! PICTON, Jan. 25. The championship regatta commenced this morning in fine weather. A north-easterly wind was blowing, causing a jobbly sea. There was a large attendance of the 'public. The following were the results: — Maiden Fours. —iPicton 1, Blenheim 2, Star (Wellington) 3. A great race, Picton winning by lialf-a-length from Elenlieim. Time,, smin 43min. Junior Pairs. —Picton 1, Blenheim 2. Won by ten lengthy. Time, 6min O'iSCC. Youths’ Clinker Fours. —Picton 1, Star .(Wellington) 2, Union (Wanganui) 3. Won by four lengths. Time, omin oOsec. Junior Fours. —Picton 1, Union (Wanganui) 2. The only starters. Won by five lengths. Time, Smin 10 sec. After getting off the minor events, it was decided to postpone the championship events till seven o’clock tomorrow morning.
