A DETERMINED WOMAN. United Panes Association— Copyright. 'LONDON, Jam 24. A woman, calling herself “Jan© Warton,” was sentenced on January 14th to a fortnight’s imprisonment at Liver.pool in connection with the suffragettes’ disturbances. The authorities have just discovered that the woman is really Lady Constance Lytton, who is seeking to ridicule Mr. Gladstone for releasing her on the plea of a weak heart, rather than forcibly feed an earl’s sister.
MEAT IMPORTERS IN TROUBLE. M. Bergh and Company, meat importers, of Smithfield, are consulting their creditors respecting the firm’s financial iposition. A DANGEROUS CUSTOMER. Dr Martin Ekeilburg, arrested in London on a charge of sending bombs to Stockholm, has been extradited. THE WAYS OF AMERICAN JURIES NEW YORK, Jan. 24. Akerman, the owner of a menagerie at Devall’s Landing, Louisiana, was murdered' while feeding an ape, which afterwards flew into a terrible rage whenever it saw 'Starr; an employe of the menagerie, and his wife. Mr and Mrs Starr were sentenced to imprisonment for life. It is understood that the ape’s rage in court influenced the jury more than the circumstantial evidence. RETIREMENT OF ADMIRAL FISHER. (Received January 25, 10.25 p.m.) ‘ LONDON, Jan. 25. Admiral Fisher retires to-day from the position of First Sea Lord of the Admiralty.
