THURSDAY CHAMPIONSHIP. The Thursday championship matches will be continued to-day, when the games Te Rau v. United and Alhambra v. Y.M.C.A. will be resumed. Turei, Pollock, Somervell, Atkinson, Lawrence, E. Luttrell, Cooper; emergency, Sceats. CANTERBURY v. VICTORIA COLLEGE. [\Pnit Pkhsb Association.! WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. The cricket match, Canterbury v. Victoria College, was concluded yesterday, resulting in a win for Canterbury by 3 four wickets. On resuming play Victoria had 165 to get to equal Canterbury’s first innings total, and had eight wickets in hand. They failed, the last wicket falling _at 115. They followed on, and as wickets fell fast, a one-innings defeat seemed imminent. Berendsen, however, came to the rescue, and when the innings closed Canterbury required 102 to win. The visitors went slowly, but got the required runs with four wickets in hand. The best score yesterday was Berendsen’s 90 for Victoria. Donnelly got five wickets for 90 runs. In Canterbury’s innings Mulgan got 17 and Bland and Donnelly 16 each; Niven got two wickets for 21. and Dempsey two for 22. The totals were : Canterbury 225 and 102 for six wickets; Victoria 115 and 210. THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. BLENHEIM, Jan. 26. The Rest of Australia in their second innings scored 382. Mayne 63, Simson 102, Armstrong 85, and. Tracy 44 were the chief scorers. New South Wales won by 35 runs. ’ VICTORIA v. NEW SOUTH WALES. (Received January 26, 9.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 26. The cricket match, Victoria v. New South 'Wales, opened to-day on a fine wicket. Victoria in their first innings made 180 (Smith 34, Delves 57, Ivort'lan’g 34 not out). Scott secured 3 wickets for 41 runs, Emery 4 for 43. New South Wales’ first innings closed for 163 (Bardsley 51, Gow 38). Armstrong took 2 wickets for 34 runs, and Saunders 6 for 78. ENGLAND V. SOUTH AFRICA.
