INTER-CLUB MATCH
Tlie second inter-club match of the season "between the Gisborne and Turanganui Clubs takes place at the latter club’s green this afternoon. Play commences at 2 p.m. sharp. It is expected that there will be a large number of bowlers and their lady friends present.. Afternoon tea is to be provided. The teams to represent the Turanganui Club, will be as follows: B. Hird,-W: Ratefiffe, A. Sawyer, J. -J. Martin'.(skip.).v M. A. Neill, P. Hal- W lam, M. G. Nasmith, junr., J. Greig (skip); It. Thelwall, E. Lewis, R. McWhirter, J. P. Williams (skip). GISBORNE CLUB. A match in the. fourth round of the handicap singles of-'the Gisborne Bowling' Club took - place yesterday afternoon, when Kyme (5 points) beat Euro (3 points) by 23 to 20. The game was very evenly contested throughout, and on the fourteenth head the scores were even, 15 all. There are three players left in this competition, Kyme, Zachariah, and Simson. A draw is to take place to settle whether Kyme or Zachajiriah is to take a bye. The one who does not receive the bye will play Simeon. The second round of the Handicap Pairs is to be concluded to-day. Hennessy is to play No. 2 in Ponsford’s rink in the match with the Turanganui Club this afternoon. At' the usual meeting of committee of the Gisborne Bowling Club Mr. Pettie presided, and there was a full attendance of members. The secretary reported that Messrs. F. T. Morgan, B. Taylor, A. Saunders, and J. Gosnell had been duly elected members of the club. A the Bluff Hill Club regarding the Burton trophy was read. Mr. Pettie reported, in accordance with the wish expressed at last meeting of the committee, he had seen the representatives of several of the Hawke’s Bay clubs in the matter, and that all those he had- seen had expressed the opinion that the time had arrived when some competition between the clubs in the Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay districts should be inaugurated. The general impression appeared to be in favor of a two-week tournament, the first one to be held in Gisborne about Easter, and to be completed in two days if possible. .. The following resolution was carried unanimously :—’“That a' tournament, consisting of two rinks from-each club rjh: the; Hawke’s 'Bay and Poverty Bay districts be held on Easter- Saturday and Monday (March 26 and 28), to com. pete for the Burton trophy-, and entries • for- which will- close on the previous -Saturday,- March -l-9th.” The details in-connection with' tlie tournament were held over for arrangement by a future r meeting Of committee; -■-The President submitted a report in r.reference to the conference of bowlers during the recent tournament, regard.?lino-, the ‘(open door” policy. He stated ■ that there Was a strong feeling in favor of the' continuation of the policy, and ntlhough his hearty invitation to have the ne'xt tournament held in Gisborne ■was well received, the conference decided that the gathering should take place 1 H that the club’s rule. ■fi Kl ' n o- the hour for the starting of “star” matches at not earlier than
4 p.m., on Thursdays, be cancelled. The starting time was left in the hands of the match committee, it being understood that match fours take precedence. Two new members were nominated. Accounts amounting to £l7O were passed for payment and, after a quantity of routine business had been transacted the meeting adjourned.
