ANOTHER FIRE AT WANGANUI. [Per Press Association.l WANGANUI, Jan. 20. A fire occurred to-night in a shop in Ridgeway Street, occupied by C. H. Clapham, tailor. The stock of suitings, etc., was spoiled by fire and water. The Guardian and United Offices hold risks, the amount of which is not available. FAULTY BOOK-KEEPING ALLEGED PALMERSTON N., Jan. 26. A. H. Raines was arrested yesterday on a warrant from Invercargill, charging him with failing to keep proper books of account. He was remanded to appear at Invercargill on February 2. Bail was allowed. ROADS AND RAILWAYS. WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. The Cabinet to-night authorised the expenditure of £72,000 on roads and £46,000 on railways. THE CHRISTCHURCH SANATORIUM. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 26. At a meeting of the Hospital Board to-day a rqport was presented by the Sanatorium Committee stating that, with the approval of the InspectorGeneral, and on the recommendation of some members of the Board, the medical staff committee had appointed Dr. Blackmore, 31. D., D.Pli., of Bombay, to the position of medical super-, intendent of the ’Sanatorium, at- a salary of £3OO a year. TIMARU “HERALD” LOSES PAPER TIMARU, Jan. 26. A brick store containing several hundred pounds’ worth of paper, owned by the Timnru Herald Company was discoverd on fire early this morning. Practically the whole of the contents were badly damaged by fire and water. The stock was insured for £SOO in the Victoria office. UNIVERSITY RECESS COMMITTEE DUNEDIN. Jan. 26.
