AUCKLAND PROTEST AGAINST “HOGBENISM.” [Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Jan. 27. Mr. Parr, Chairman of the Board of Education, on being interviewed,- said he entirely agreed with the protest of the Otago Board against the constitution of the Education Conference, which, to be of any value, should include representatives of parents and taxpayers. Under the present constitution any resolutions against Mr. Hogben’s 'ideas would no doubt be quietly quoted as had been the case in the past. TEH WRECKED'BARQUE IMACOS. The Imacos was commanded by Captain Grandson. Part of her cargo was salvaged, and was sold by auction for £285 The vessel was insured for £3OOO, and her cargo for £2OOO. NATIVE SCHOOL BURNED. The Whangape Native school built six months ago, was destroyed by fire last night. Incendiarism is suspected. WEDNESDAY THE HALF HOLIDAY IN WELLINGTON. Delegates from the local bodies decided on Wednesday as the day for the statutory weekly* half-holiday in Wellington and suburbs. TECHNICAL EDUCATION. The Technical School Board, in granting permission to the director to attend the Educational Congress at Wellington, expressed extreme regret that at important conferences there would be no representation by the Technical Board. CARPENTERS AND JOINERS WANT LESS WORKING HOURS. The Amalgamated Carpenters and Joiners’ Union are appealing to the Conciliation Council to reduce the hours of labor per diem so as to give employment to more tradesmen than at present, and so minimise unemployment; also to ask for the granting of time off during working hours to allow apprentices to attend technical schools or approved classes.
