HAWKE’S BAY EDUCATION BOARD.
MEETING AT NAPIER. (Special to “Times.”) NAPIER, Jan, 27. The Hawke’s Bay Education Board met this afternoon, Sir AVm. Russell in the chair. . \ Thirty-four junior scholarships were allotted and included the following Gisborne- candidates: A. E, Fyson, R. Robb, O. H. Bull, T. Blackburn, and AL AV. Nicol, each £2l; Alary Kennedy (Ormond) and Ellen Angland (Patu-t-a.hi). each £3O. Eight .senior scholarships were granted, bull the Gisborne candidates were unsuccessful. A. J. Forsyth was tenth on the list. The following probationers were appointed : Aliss N. H. Harper, to Patutahi; Miss C. AlcGill, to Mangapapa; Aliss A. AL Anderson to AVairoa. It was decided, on the recommendation of the architect, to have the out■oifices of the Gisborne School repaired. On the motion of Air. Darton, it was decided to again approach the Department for a grant for a school for Alilltown, and other abdications that have been held over by the Department. A committee, consisting of the southern members, was appointed to confer wit-h tlie teachers with the view of holding a winter school at Dannevir'ke at tlie end of the second school term of 1910. „ , Aliss Alatheson s leave of absence was extended to twelve months. The Hawke’s Bay Education Board to-day passed a resolution to the effect that it is desirable that each Education Board should be represented by one of its members at the coming general conference on education convened by the Government. The Board appointed Aliss Agnes S. Vernon, of Invercargill, as an instructor in dressmaking and cookery.
