E. A. SMITH.
NOT A MYTH. [Per Press Association.! DUNEDIN, Jan. 23 Mr. Von Haast, a member of the Senate of the New .Zealand University, gave a ‘‘Daily Times" reporter son e information to-day with reference to “E. A. Smith." “It seems to be generally assumed in discussion on this subject,” lie said, “that E. A. Smith never existed in the flesh, but that the name-was used only as a blind to conceal the identity of Mr. Edward Kennaway and his relationship to the secretary to the High Commissioner. This was hot the case. I knew’ Mr. E. A. Smith well 'myself, before Mr. Edward Kennaway joined the firm. Mr. Smith originally bad the shipping business alone. Later lie was joined by Mr. Kennaway, and when Mr. Smith retired on account of old age and illliealth, Mr. Kennaway continued business under the original name of the firm!" ”,
