MEDICINE AND DENTISTRY

At the meeting of the University Senate yesterday, the Me-dical Committee recommended ail alteration in the statute regarding the course of medicine by providing that students should attend at least twelve midwifery cases, at least four of them under the proper supervision of a maternity hospital, and that they should attend a short course of demonstrations on elementary stomatology. A number of _ alterations were also recommended in the dental course. ’ The committee further, recom-. mended that the following examiners be appointed in medicine and dentistry:— Physics, Professor Shand (Dunedin); biokm- Professor Benham (Dunedin); inorganic chemistry, Professor F. D. Brown (Auckland); organic chemistry, Professor F. D. Brown (Auckland)-; anatomy, Professor J. J. H. Scott (Dunedin) and Dr. W. V. Moore (Napier): physiology* Professor Malcolm (Dunedinl and Dr. Fitehett (Dunedin) ; pathology Professor Roberts (Dunedin) and Dr. J. P. D. Leahy (Napier); materiamedica. Dr. E. E. Bloomfield (Dunedin) and Dr. E. H. Alexander (Dunedin); medical jurisprudence and public health Professor Ogston (Dunedin) and another gentleman yet to be appointed ; medical and surgical anatomy, Professor J. H. Scott (Dunedin) and Professor Barnett (Dunedin); surgery and clinical srurgery. Professor "Barnett (Dunedin) and: Dr. T. C. Savage (Auckland) ; medicine and- clinical medicine. Profepor Colquhoun (Dunedin) and Dr. W. K. Fyfe (Wellington); midwifery and gynecology, Dr. F. R. Riley (Dunedin) and; Dr. J. Ewart (Wellington); dental anatomy. Professor Benham (Dunedin); materia medica, Professor Pickersgill (Dunedin) and Dr. E. E. Bloomfield (Dunedin); dental metallurgy, Professor Waters (Dunedin) and Mr. O. V. Davis (Dunedin): dental and oral surgery, Professor Pickerill (Dunedin) and Mr. T. A. Hunter (Dunedin); operative dental surgery and orthodontia. Professor Pickerill (Dunedin) and Mr. T. A. Hunter (Dunedin); dental mechanics. Professor Pickerill (Dunedin) and Mr. F. Throp (Dunedin). RECESS COMMITTEE. The University Senate appointed the Chancellor, Professor' Brown, Rev. Cameron, and Messrs Chelton, Haast, Shand, Tole, and Hogben a recess committee. The Chancellor, and Messrs McMillan, Brown .and Hogben were appointed to inquire into the possibility of reducing the time between the degree examinations and the issue-or, results to candidates, and to consider the feasibility of placing, the system on a more satisfactory basis.
