A successor to Mr Bowling as president of the Labor Federation has hot been selected. The name of Mr Charlton, a member of the Assembly, has been suggested. The Broken Hill Labor Federation carried a unanimous ’vot.e of sympathy with the imprisoned men, and it was decided to communicate with all industrial bodies with a view rto concerted action to demand the immediate release of the men.

MEETING OF NORTHERN COLLIERY PROPRIETORS.

A meeting of Northern colliery proprietors has been held, it is supposed ‘in connection with the Wages Board, which is now taking evidence. The judge told both parties 1 in unmistakable terms that they must come right in or stay right out. The. fact that miners are now giving evidence, which a smart legal expert might put a different complexion on, has evidently roused the owners to reconsider their position in regard to ignoring the Board.

There is no country, says the “Gazette,” where the artisan is more favored by law than the Australian Ccmmomvealtlh, and it is well that the leaders in that labor paradise should be taught that the country must come before party, and the comfort of the many before the selfish demands of a single class.

NEWCASTLE MINERS WISH FOR CONFERENCE WITH MINEOWNERS.

SYDNEY, Jan. 29

The ■ Newcastle Miners’ Delegate Board adqpted a recommendation of the advisory 'committee urging the Board to ask the colliery owners to meet it, with a view to the settlement of the strike.
