Mr. J. IT. Mentiplay, accountant in the Wellington branch, of the Bank of New Zealand, has been promoted to be relieving manager, and leaves for Westport next week. As president of the Wellington Bowling Club and secretary of the Northern Bowling Association, Mr. Mentiplay has done much to advance. the game of bowls, and regrot is felt in his early.departure from Wellington. , Mr. H. D. Bell, K.C.. has returned to Wellington after an absence of nine months, feeling very much better for a trip round the. world. He went Home direct by the Athenic, arriving there in May last. While in London he proposed to argue two cases before the Privy Council, but only one' ooulcl bo gone on with. ' The return journey to New Zealand occupied five months, and lay through many interesting countries and places. Dr. J. S. Purdy, late chief health officer at Auckland, left by the Msun Trunk line, on Monday, for Wellington and the Bluff, en route for Hobart, to assume his now duties as chief health officer of Tasmania. Mrs. Purdy accompanies h-er Jvusband, and tlicy wore farewelled by many friends. “Comet” writes in the Sydney “Bulletin:” —Rumors of Ward’s retirement from the M.L. Premiership are increasing.
