SUPREME COURT SENTENCES

Prisoners were sentenced in the Supremo Court this morning as follows: Rees Nicholson, arson at Taumarunui. three years ; William John Davidson, IS years of age, forgery and 1 ’ theft from dwellings, 18 months’ hard labor on each charge, sentences to be comulativo; Thomas George Little, theft of a horse and saddle, a bad record, three years’ hard labor.
RAILWAY TIME TABLE
WANGANUI, Feb. 4. At a meeting of the Chamber of Com. merce last exening strong exemption was taken te the present railway timetable between Wellington, Wanganui, and New Plymouth. A resolution expressing a- protest was carried. It was also decided to hold a public meeting to discuss tliis and other unsatisfactory matters. The question of railway freight rates was discussed, and it was resolved to bring the matter under the notice of the Minister of Railways, with a view to the rates being irameu on a more equitable basis.
FATAL DRAY ACCIDENT
NEW PLYMOUTH. Feb. 4. A man named Burke, aged 33, believed to have a wife in Ballarat, was fatally injured at Lepnerton, on Wednesday . He was working in a river carting out boulders for crushing, when the tip-dray capsized. He fell in front of the dray, and the wheels passed over t’ho lower part of his body. He was removed to the hospital. An operation was performed, but extensive internal injuries resulted in death last evening. Burke was an Australian, aged about 33. He is believed to have been working in "Wellington for the last three years.
THE PREMIER. INDISPOSED
WELLINGTON, Feb. 4
The Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, has been somewhat indisposed during the last two days, but improved sufficiently yesterday to transact a limited amount of business. His proposed southern visit has been postponed .
A CORRECTION
CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 4
In the report of the Hon. G. Fowlds’ speech yesterday, he was made to say that he had not yet found any of the Education Boards who had saved up any of the money given them for rebuilding. What he said was that he had not found any of the Boards who had saved up all the money given them for re-building. THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION. The Hon. G. Fowlds, Minister of Education, with Mr. G. W. Russell, M.P.. visited Phillipstown and North Tan wood schools to-day, and received deputations. He was engaged with departmental business during_ the rest of the day. The Minister visits Burnham. Industrial School to-morrow.
