GISBORNE CLUB

The return match between Art and Commerce, as represented respectively by the Scarlet Troubadours and tlie Ciisbome BoAvling Club, took place on the Club’s green on Saturday afternoon. The personnel of the Club’s rink Avas different from that Avhicli played against the Troubadours on Friday. That of the latter’s rink was unchanged. The result Avas a second A7ictorv for Art, this time by a substantial majority. The rinks and scores Avere as folloAVS: —

Troubadours—Mannering, Fletcher, Warwick, Le Plastrder (skip) 21 beat Gisborne—Wootton, Harris, W. Pettie, Mackintosh (skip) 13. —Ordinary Matches.—

Ordinary matches, were played on the Gisborne green on Saturday as follows: LeAids, Wilson, Kinvig, Bright (skip) 31 beat Maher, Gosnell, Ambridge, Hon. J. Carroll (Skip) 9. Zachariali, Paltridge, Benzie, F. A. Martin (skip) 17 beat Brown, Kymo, Witty, Ponsford (skip) 14. Murray, Hanson, Boulton, Greig (skip) 22 beat Ashton, Crompton, Johnston. Corson (skip) 13.

TURANGANUI CLUB.

The green of the Turanganui Bowling Club was on Saturday afternoon the scene of a large assemblage of bowlers. A number of games, were played, some purely friendly contests, while, others were match games. Chief inter, cst centred in the President’s Fours, the first round of which was commenced. The following are the detailed results of the matches: — —President’s Four's. — W. Webb, J. D. Jeune, T. McConnell, and J. J. Martin (slop) (scratch) 25 boat H. J. Finn, H. Martin, C. J. Bennett, and J. P. Williams (skip) (5 points) 20.—Dan. Barry acted, as substitute for H. Martin. On the first four heads Williams’ rink' failed to score, while Martin’s team overtook their opponents' handicap and led by four points. Williams’' four then drew level with 10 all on the eighth head. The next four heads were of an even score, the rinks being 12 ail on the 12th head. On the next two heads Martin scored singles, but on the 15th head secured a five. This gave his team a commanding lead, and Williams’ rink suffered defeat by five points. To-morrow evening this round will be contimied, when Sawyer’s and McWhirter’s rinks have arranged to meet. • —Bennett Cup.— B. Hird (holder) 17 beat W. Bruce 15. —Up to the Bth. head Bruce failed ] to score, while Hird ran up twelve 1 noints . Then Bruce on the next eight ] heads made a splendid recovery, put-] ting up ten points to his. opponents^]

On the 9tlx head Williams led by' four points—lo to 6. On reaching the 17th head Martin drew level, the board showing 15 all. A ding-dong “go” then ensued, and on the 20th head t’he scores stood at 18 all. Martin drew the shot in the filial head with his third bowl, and Williams followed with a good bowl alongside Martin. Martin with his fourtli bowl drew a lovely shot and lay two. Williams came firm with liis last bowl, but missed liis object, and Martin scored a win by two points.
