The “Daily Mail’s” Capetown correspondent reports that General Botha, Mr. J. C. Smuts, and Dr. Jameson are Avilling to assist to form a non-party Government, but Mr-. J. A. X. Meriman has detached the Cape Bond leaders. Mr. Merriman, speaking at Worcester, Cape Colony, after consultation AA'itli General Botha, avlio is at CapetoAvn, advised the Progressives to get out of their little cockboat coalition idea, whiich had emanated from Throgmorton Street. The Union Government AA'ould need all possible criticism. The Smith African party embraced national feeling in a broad Avaiy. It looked foi Avard to managing its oavh affairs without interference. He added, “My idea of a Progressive is a man Avho is fond of borroAving, avlio wants to imitate Australia, who admires tlie Imperial South African Association, Avhicli avb loathe, aaTio has one eyo on South Africa and the other on the English Stock Exchange.” Mr Merriman deprecated amalgamation pf the Bond, Orangia, and Het Volk parties, but said the three might constitute a united South African part} 7 , which, he hoped, would l>e the dominant party in the future.
