The .Southern miners have decided to leave the settlement of the strike in the hands of the Amalgamated Council, Avhicli meets to-day.

BALLOT OF NORTHERN MINERS TO BE TAKEN.

The Miners’ Amalgamated Council, in a (protracted discussion, dealt Avith tAVO resolutions. The first Avas moved by Mr. Du'nleavey, and seconded by Mr. Waugh, Southern miners’ representatives, in favor of the Northern miners resuming work on the 14th inst. This Avas lost by three to two, both Northern and Western representatives voting against it.

The second resolution, moved by Mr Peters, and seconded by Mr. Allison, Northern representatives, Avas that the Northern district he asked to ballot upon the acceptance of the Wages Board or an open conference simultaneously Avith the resumption of Avork, the result to be known not later than Saturday night next, and, in the event of the Wages Board being adopted, a resumption of Avork take place both in the Northern and Southern districts as soon as ,possible. This AA'as carried by 3 to 2, the Northern and Western representatives supporting it, and the Southern members opposing it.

TRIAL OF STRIKE LEADERS ADJOURNED.

Tlie hearing of the conspiracy charge against BoAvling and others has been postponed further on account of Brennan’s continued illness.

SIGNS OF AN APPROACHING SETTLEMENT.

The action of the Western delegates voting against the Southern proposal for the resumption of work came as a surprise. It AA-as generally anticipated that they intended to support it. Horses have been brought in from the paddocks in the Woollongong district in readiness for the .resumption of AA’ork at the .various mines. The NeAvcastle Miners’ Delegate Board’s meeting to-morroAV is expected to arrive at a decision Avhicli Avill have an important bearing on the settlement of the strike.
