THE RECENT BLAZE AT
WANGANUI

An enquiry into tile recent lire at the Rutland Hotel was held yesterday. A verdict was returned: ’’That the jury find that the fire was caused by an accidental explosion through an accumulation of coal gas, but there is not sufficient evidence to show, how the gas escaped.” .
FIRE AT WINTON—A FATALITY
INVERCARGILL. Feb. 10
The Railway Hotel, at Winton, on old wooden building two storeys high, was completely destroyed by lire at G this morning. Thomas Mclncrney, who escaped from the burning building, but has not been seen since, evidently reentered. to secure the contents of the safe, and was burned to death. His charred remains were found in the debris. The insurances are: New Zealand office, £SOO on thr, building, and £375 on the contents; North British, £250, and Yorkshire, £2OO on the contents.
