ACCIDENT TO A STEEPLECHASE
RIDER.

While, riding in the principal leaping competition at Paliiatua show yesterday, Stanley Whyte, the rider of Lady Eva, was thrown on liis head, sustaining concussion of the brain. He was removed to town for medical attention. H e , is making satisfactory progress.
ELDERLY WOMAN'S SUDDEN
DEATH
CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 10
Sarah Ann Smart, aged 60, died sud_ denlv at Yaldhurst yesterday, the cause being rupture of the aorta.
RUN OYER BY TRAMCAR
An elderly man named Henrv Smith, late licensee of th e Seven Mile Peg Hotel, was run over by a tram in Cathedral Square about 12.30 to-day, sustaining serious injuries. Smith attempted to board a car bound for the Addington trots just as it was starting, and slipped and fell under the car. on c , wheel passing over his left leg. A bystander grabbed him and nulled liim out before the second wheel ran over him. He was conveyed to the hospital, where his leg was amputated.
