GISBORNE CLUB
The final in the Muir Cup took place last evening between Somervell, Tocher, Busby, and Scott, and Hansen, G. Puflett, J. Pollock, and Jeffreys, and resulted in a win for thd former. The race was very exciting and close. At Nesbitt’s jetty Hansen had a. slight lead, but at Evans’ boat-shed Somerveli crept up slightly and at the Poverty Bay Club’s shed had a slight lead, which he' managed to maintain, winning only by inches. The final in the Post and Telegraph double sculls was also rowed, and Dawson and Dalgety scored a win over Gallop and Reddell. The winning crew got an advantage at the start, and maintaining a lead, won by about a length after a hard race.

Whelcli is now down to his weight, and his supporters confidently expect lie will row the race of his life with Arnst on' April 2nd at Akaroil. He returned to Christchurch to-day, but goes back to Akaroa shortly to put in some final work.
