BOWLING.
GISBORNE CLUB
The green of the Gisborne Club was in capital order yesterday afternoon, and so many members preferred its attractions to thos e , of the races that nearly every rink was occupied. Two match games, oue in the semi-final of the Handicap Pairs, and one in the competition for the Eure gold stars, were played, besides a number of ordinary games.
The following were the results:— —Eure Gold Stare.—
Paltridge, Kyme (sub.), Smith, Greig (skip) (holders) 26 beat Seymour, Wootton, R. G. Crawford. T. A. Crawford (skip) (challengers) 14.—An unusual point in connection with this game was that victory rested with the holders of the trophies. In previous contests the challengers have usually been the victors. Another rink has a challenge out against the winners.
—Handicap- Pairs.—
Seymour and Ivyme (9) 33 beat Pavitt and Wootton (10) 21.—The losere put up a, good fight, but had to submit to a defeat by a dozen points. The winners are to play in the final against Wilson and Benzie.
—Ordinal Matches.— Archer. R. G. Crawford, Witty, T. A. Crawford (skip) 25 beat Brown, Wilson. G. Miller, Ponsford (skip) 20. Townson, Burton, Hcnnessy, Robert, son (skip) 30 beat Murray, Pasley, Eure. Greig (skip) 21. Malcolm, Williams, J. F. Pettie, Craig (skip) 24 beat H. Miller, Harris, W. Pettie, ■ Smith (skip) 22.
TURANGANUI CLUB. Despite the counter-attraction of the races, there wag a large attendance of bowlers on the. Turanganui Bowling Club’s green yesterday afternoon.. The green was- in the verv best of order, and played exceedingly keen ami true. Four rinks were occupied, and two match games were played. The results were: —
—President’s Fours. — H. C. Anderson, AV. Bruce, B. Hird, and M. G. Nasmith, junr. (skip) (3 points) 21 beat J. B. Leydon. ,C. I" 1 . Lewis, P. E. Hallam, AV. Ratcliff© (skip) (4 points) 13.—This was the second game in the first round. In the absence of Hallam, M. A. Neill played as substitute. Nasnutlrs rink overtook their opponents’ handicap on the first head, and playing: a solid game soon obtained a lead, being 10 to 4 on the 9th head, j Then Ratcliffe’s team, obtaining a single, a three, and a single, were but one down on the 12th head, with 9 to 10. The leading rin'k then got going strongly, and on the 19th head Ted by 20 to 10. eventually winning easily by eight - points. -—Bennett Cup.—
M. A. Neill 21 beat R. O. Sheet 11.— Neill had the best of the game throughout, leading on the 10th head by 12 to 3, and winning by a margin of ten points. •—Colts’ Singles.-
Entries for Colts’ Singles, for the medal presented by Mr. H. J. Grieve, close on the green to-morrow afternoon.
