CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON

The conference of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants continued yesterday. It was decided that the concession of privilege tickets ought to be extended to deserving juniors assisting to support widowed mothers It was resolved to ask the Department to grant one privilege ticket quarterly to superannuated members and their wives. It was decided that second division members can be represented on the 'Superannuation Fund Board by four members, two from each island, instead of three, as at present. A vigorous protest was entered against the continuation of leaving claims for compensation to members of the first division out of the railway superannuation fund, and it was decided that the Act be amended to make provision for widows and children of superannuated members deceased ; also for widows and children oi deceased members retired as unfiit for duty. It was resolved that benefits under the Worker’s Compensation Act should not interfere in any way with the benefits under the railways superannuation fund. It was also decided that the system of a leave rota ought to be abolished. The Railway Conference decided vo request that ten days’ leave of absence be granted to all members of the . second division, and that an additional day be granted for each five years’ service after fifteen years. It was resolved to ask the Minister to increase, the amount of lodging allowance to os per night to all members where no sleeping accommodation is provided. It was agreed to urge that when members are incapacitated through accident in the discharge of their duties they should have full nav. Attention was drawn to the unsatisfactory method adopted by the Department of booking employees off work between trains on Snndavs.
