PATUTAHI SCHOOL.

ANNUAL PICNIC

The annual picnic of the. scholars of the Patutahi school was held at the Patutalii Domain yesterday. A most, enjoyable day was spent, several athletic events being carried out, the successful competitors being 'rewarded with handsome prizes. Tho members of tho school committee had the assistance of the Rev. A. H. Coles and Mr. J• O. "Woodward, the headmaster, in attending to the arrangements. The catering was in the hands of a representative committee of ladies, consisting of Mesdames Seragg. Calcs, Watt, Atkins, Woodward, Lyons, Angland. Munro, Wilkinson, iMi'sses Watt Tuoh.V. and Hooper, and they were assisted in their efforts by a number of the settlors. After lunch had been partaken of, the school children were assembled, and handsome silrer medals for attendance were presentee! to the following:— Lizzie Atkins, Arthur Bates, Mary Atkins, Mary McLaughlin, Doris Bates, Alice Tuohy, Ruby Bates, F. McLoughliii. Ida Dcleman, Frank Bates, Marion Fade, Michael Angland, Maggie Atkins, Eva Atkins, Eugene Dougherty, Annie Hill, Essie Hair, Willie Atkins, Kcitli Woodward. Vivian Atkins, Kennuxre Lyons, Ewcn Mclldowie, Henry Harries, and Reginald Bates. In addition. Miss L. Atkins received a gold .medal for having attended for eight years 'without a- break. This medal was generously donated by Mr. J. Atkins, who also gave silver thimbles to the girl prize-winners and silver sleevelinks to the boys. A special prize for the best essay on the Christmas holidays, presented by the Rev. A. HColes, was won by Miss D. GummingThe pleasure of those present was greatlv enhanced by a number of selections from a grama phone kindly lout by Mr. H. Hoare.
