THE MEN’S CLAIMS,

The main claims submitted to the Wages Board on behalf of the Colliery Employes’ Federation are that the selling price of coal shall regulate wages in all seams in Newcastle and Maitland. districts. Thus when the selling price is at 9s, for every shilling rise in price there will he fourpence advance in the hewing rate. The claims also involve proportionate advances for tops and bottoms in yardage rates; that it ■be optional for miners to do shift -work; that the minimum standard height of a seam be sft, one penny per ton |per inch to be paid for every inch below that, in addition to the hewing rate; that the nightshift men be paid sixpence a ton additional to the ordinary liewing rate; that only one shift shall he worked for the purpose of drawing coal iii 24 hours; that eight hours from hank to hank constitute a working day for all 1 employes; that all coal failing to pass through a ;}-inch mesh he paid for as round coal; the employes also demand extra pay for wet places, and a change in regard to filling dirt, involving an advance.
NEWCASTLE MINERS TO BALLOT AS TO RESUMING WORK.

The Newcastle Delegate Board lias decided to take a ballot on the question of resuming work.
