BOY SCOUTS.

Y.M.C.A. TROOP.

The instruction night last week, was devoted to knotting and splicing, under Mr J- Williams, an ex-man-of-vvarsman. Some new knots were learnt -that should prove of great service in scouting. Corporal Bradford was easily the best in handling the ropes. Several boys were, lowered from, the windows overlooking Bright Street, in slings suitable for cliffs etc. On Saturday the troop followed up a trail made by No. 3 Troop, and succeeded in tracking them down. , This afternoon No. 1 and the Y.M.C.A. Troops try conclusions at cricket.

S’T. ANDREW’S TROOP. Ambulance instruction is now being given at the new club rooms. At last class night the different kinds of armsling was practised, and the scouts, working in squads of four, also bandaged a boy for broken thigh and carried him off on a stretcher made from staves and coats. On Saturday afternoon a small must, or turned out, and, going over the old golf links, left a trail for the Y.M.C.A. Troop. It was intended to lead up to the gaipe of “Snider and Fly, ’ but •owing to the difficult nature of the country this had to be abandoned, and at-. 4 p.m! the scouts went into ambush on the sand hills at Waikamte. On arrival of the enemy notes of'tlic route were compared. and then all stripped for a .swim, which was much enjoyed.
