ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
AN APPARENT SUICIDE
[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Feb. 19. A telegram from Oliura reports that Dr. ItoAvland, a resident medico, Avas found dead last night, the top of his head having been blown off. A gun containing a discharged cartridge Avas lying across the body.
TEMPORARY INSANITY. At the inquest concerning tho,death of the young man Parish, avlio blew his brains out on Thursday evening, tho evidence sliOAved that deceased was not addicted to drink, and was very steady. The. sum of £2 IDs 5d Avas found on the body. A post office savings bank book showed that deceased had a small sum to his credit in the bank. A verdict was returned that deceased died from a gun-shot Avound self-inflicted, during temporary insanity. FATAL RIDING ACCIDENT.
HOKITIKA, Feb. 19. George Gerke, a single man, aged about 60 years, Avas killed on Thursday on the Main South. Westland road, heloav Cook’s River, through a. horse he was 1 riding bolting and going over steep siding, both rider and horse being killed. Deceased 1 AA r a»’ a highly respected resident of South Westland for many years.
