GALES IN BRITAIN.
MIRACULOUS ESCAPE OF RAILWAY PASSENGERS.

There have been -heavy gales in Great Britain and Ireland. The velocity of the wind was over 70 miles an liour in some places. Much damage was done at Preston and Birmingham, and torrential rains fell at Carlisle.
A train in Ireland was blown over a twelve-foot embankment, and the couplings held some waggons suspended. The passengers had a miraculous escape.
