At the Civil Service Club’s sports meeting on Saturday, J. <F. Wilson, the Wellington champion, and a competitor in the New Zealand championships at Auckland next Saturday, covered the half-mile in Lmin 58 4-ssec. Woodger, from scratch, in the final of the 100 yards, was just beaten by Cunningham, off 7f yards, in 9 4-ssec. J. Will ton did 440yds in 52 2-ssec, and H iff or a mile in 4-min 32 2-ssec. Another attempt avill be made tomorrow to obtain leave of absence for L. M. McKay, New Zealand and Australian pole vault champion and record holder, to enable'him to compete at Auckland. Should the attempt be unsuccessful, the vacancy will be filled by the inclusion of F. Hubbard, long jump 100 and 220yds. Hubbard has already notified his intention of competing, if necessary at his own expense.
A RECORD NARROWLY MISSED. United Press Association— Copyright (Received Feb. 21, 1.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 20. ■At the harriers’ sports, Ellis won the 300yds Handicap in 31 3-5 seconds, which is over a second inside the Australian record. The track, on being measured, was found two yards short. Ellis, therefore, was not given a record.
