EFFECTS OF THE STRIKE—A. BANK MANAGER’S VIEW.
Mr. J. Russell French, general manager of the Bank of New South Wales, interviewed in Wellington last week, upon his arrival from Sydney, expressed the opinion that the strike had nob had any serious effect upon the prosperity of New South Wales. There had undoubtedly been great inconvenience and loss of time. "But- now that tbe strike was over he thought things would settle down neacably. There had been a great dislocation of the shipping industry, and that would, of course, be a loss of revenue lor the in. dividual shipping companies concerned. The wool and wheat had been delayed in transit to Sydney, but apart from that there would he no other heavy loss to the State as a whole. The wool and wheat were now coming forward as before the. strike. He did not see any reason to apprehend trouble in the future. What was wanted by the public as a whole was peace; and. indeed, that now seemed to lie assured.
