United Press Association —Copyright NEW YORK, Feb. 21. A serious strike, followed by rioting, has occurred at Philadelphia. The tramway men alleging that 700 of their comrades had been unfairly dismissed, took u|;j their cause and TOCO tramway men ceased work after giving only an hour’s notice of their intention to strike.

Then followed much rioting in vh.ch even women participated.

The rioters wrecked 297 tramway cars and many were burned. Two girls were shot during the rioting. The Riot Act was enforced.

Three thousand extra police were sent to reinforce the ordinary staff.
