FINED.

Over 40 men and women who participated in the recent Socialist demonstration were to-day fined from 20s to 40s. The South Clifton mine, after a stoppage of five months, re-started to-day. 'Williamson and Phillips, two men over whom trouble arose, were amongst those taken hack, and were treated to a hostile demonstration by a large crowd, in which women were prominent.
HOPEFUL FEELING IN NEWCASTLE.

Feeling in- Newcastle is hopeful that to-morrow will see the miners back at the pits.
As a result of the Full Court’s decision, the nine miners’ officials who were fined £IOO, with the alternative of two months’ imprisonment, surrendered, and were conveyed to Maitland gaol to serve their sentences.
A STRIKE LEADER’S GALLANT ACTION.
Shortly before surrendering, one man, Pease, gallantly rescued a man who got in front of a tram. Pease dashed- to his assistance. Both were knocked down, but Avere uninjured.
