Next week the celebrations in connection with the centonnary of Methodism in Australia will commence. Strictly speaking 1915 is the centennary year of the arrival of the first missionary, Samuel Leigh, but as it is desired to commemorate the event by raising £50,000 for a theological institution an early start is being made. STOCK IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

The report of the Chief Inspector of Stock shows that on January Ist there were in the State about 43,148,00 U sheep, 2,589,000 cattle, and 192,000 horses.

ACCIDENT IN A FORT.

MELBOURNE, Feb. 22

Twenty men were putting a hood on a new six-inch gun in Queenscliff Fort \yhen the hood slipped. WaiFant-Offi-cer Bishop -was injured, and the others had a narrow escape. The gun was damaged slightly.
