BALLOT FOR KTTMETI AND MANGATERA SECTIONS.

'l'hea-e was a large attendance at the ballot for the lvumeti and Mangatera sections ibis afternoon. The proceedings were conducted by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr. Brodrick, with him were Messrs Geo. Wright and W. E. Ackroyd, members of the Land. Board. The Commissioner, in his opening remarks, said that they had" been fairly strict in rejecting applications from those who had small areas of land, but, considering the very largo number of applications from landless persons., he thought they were justified in giving landless applicants the first chance. A large number would be unsuccessful, and he would say to those that there were other sections which would be opened shortly. There was tlie Clydebank estate at Frasertown, AYairoa, and the Ngatapa estate, near Gisborne, each of about 10,000 acres. In a lew months he hoped to see a few more sections opened up near Dannevir ko Seven hundred and eleven applications- were received from about 398 applicants, and the. results of the ballot wore as follows: Norsewood Survey District.—Secondclass land. Block 12, section 5,352 a lr 19p; 27 applicants; Donald Thorluirn, Dnnnevirko.
