The Newcastle negotiations lia-ve reached an impasse. When the Wages Board met, Judge -Sclioles, who iiad previously conferred with the proprietors, after lengthily reviewing the negotiations, announced that the proprietors took up the- position that their promise to take back the employees referred -only to -members of the Northern Colliery Employees’ Federation, and would not be held to include the members of individual unions not in the Federation. They did not intend to sacrifice men who came to their -aid •during the strike to make room for others. Judge -Scholes asked that Mr Charlton and the men’s representatives to carefully consider the position, and make a- suggestion, if possible, to overcome the difficulty. Mr. Charlton suggested that the proprietors should meet the representatives of the men and talk things over. If the position could lie defined, some thing might be done. Nothing was definitely decided when tho Court- adjourned till to-morrow. In the meantime, it is understood an' effort- will be made to reach some solution.
